Robocup@Home 2018

The RIVeR Lab participated in Robocup@Home 2018 hosted in Montreal, Canada. My focus was on developing the speech, navigation, and high level system components, getting all our packages integrated and working together. This competition one of the main reasons I developed dialogflow_ros, a ROS wrapper around Googles chatbot API.

Our team received fourth place overall and “Best in Manipulation” thanks to Tarik’s amazing work with trajopt. Our robot would be in the dark if it wasn’t for Naoki’s awesome job with person detection (check out his post here).

As always, these competitions are basically hackathons trying to get things working for the competition, battling with wifi and last minute configurations.
